What an opportunity! Rotary District 6040 was notified that the Gumdrop Books Warehouse in Bethany, Missouri, is giving away its entire collection of 150,000 books to the district to give away to organizations and schools as they see fit.
Rotary 13 is building a team to box up books for the Talk, Read, Play program of Mayor James and administered by the Family Conservancy to put books into the hands of pre-school disadvantaged children. We just need to go to Bethany, Missouri (184 miles, 1hr. 30min off I-35), at 8:00am on September 1. We will bring boxes and volunteer power, to get the books back to Kansas City. Phil Kinney is arranging for a truck with capacity to load pallets onto it for transporting the books. The Family Conservancy at 444 Minnesota in Kansas City, Kansas, will unload and warehouse the books!
In order to make this possible for Kansas City children we need:
1. 10 people to volunteer to go to Bethany on September 1
2. 100 boxes (copy paper carton size), broken down.
3. 2 dollys to move boxes of books.
