For some reason the attendance was WAY down last week, like 10-12 people made it. Must have been something in the air! I was one of those unable to make it, so no news to report other than the reduced attendance.

Our speaker this week is Brandon Calloway, CEO/Co-Founder of Generating Income For Tomorrow (G.I.F.T).
Brandon Calloway is a distinguished leader with extensive experience in both the nonprofit and business sectors. As the CEO and Co-Founder of Generating Income For Tomorrow (G.I.F.T.), Brandon is dedicated to closing the racial wealth gap in Kansas City.
Brandon’s career journey includes leadership roles in the nonprofit and fitness industries, strengthened by his military service as a Nutrition Specialist. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and Exercise Science from Avila University and is earning an Executive MBA from Rockhurst University. His commitment to community service is evident through his volunteer work on nonprofit boards, including reStart Inc., WeCode KC, and Athvantage, where he served as fundraising committee chair. He also contributes to MORE2 and Juneteenth-KC, demonstrating a deep dedication to civil rights and community development.
Brandon’s achievements have earned him widespread recognition, including being named a 2022 Next Gen Leader by the Kansas City Business Journal and receiving the 2022 Pinnacle Prize Award. Under his leadership, G.I.F.T. was honored with the 2024 Nonprofit Connect Award for Excellence in Impact. Brandon is also a recipient of two Army Achievement Medals for academic excellence.
Through the month of October, there will be a fundraising campaign for the Kansas City Rotary Club Foundation, The Rotary Youth Camp serves nearly 4,000 campers each year and the Foundation assures that will continue for years to come.
Many thanks to the current Foundation Fellows! However, if you are not a Fellow, please note that it takes a $1,000 contribution to become a Fellow or you may become a Fellow by first being a Sustaining Member with a series of smaller contributions. Through the month of October, there is a special discount for new contributors. Contribute $800 and you'll be a Fellow and all new Sustaining Member contributions will be matched $1 for $1 up to $200.

Club 13 Rotarians have generously supported Project CURE for the last few years sorting and packing medical equipment and supplies needed at hospitals and clinics in resource-limited countries.
We have scheduled our 2026 volunteer opportunity for Thursday, October 15th, 5:00 – 7:00 PM, at the Project CURE Warehouse in the Subtropolis.

The camp hosted a Scouting America Troop and a Cub Scout Pack this weekend. Although they all may not have enjoyed the lightning show Saturday night, they did appreciate the lower temperatures on Sunday. Their service projects involved straightening up and moving wood racks and firewood around the fire circles. They did a great job!
We had to take one of the giant oak trees out along the sidewalk to the latrines this week. According to the rings, it was over 120 years old. Don’t worry, we will be planting another one for future campers to enjoy!
As we have in the past, we are seeking to be a sponsor at the $5,000 level, this year’s “Diamond Spur” sponsorship. This gets us two reserved tables of 10 and other amenities, i.e. for 20 people total. We ask then for a contribution of $250 per person for this sponsorship.
In the interest of full disclosure, one can obviously attend the Foundation Dinner for less, but our sponsorship will mean that $2,500 will go to the Rotary Foundation. As we have done in the past, please let me know whether you can support our sponsorship this year. Payment of $250 per person ($500 per couple) can be made to Rotary Club of Kansas City and given to or mailed to Kandi, who will keep track for Paul Harris Fellowship purposes and then make a single payment to District 6040.
