Another bowling season is upon us! The league held the draft party a few weeks ago, anticipating a start of the 2026/2027 season on September 9th. We are looking forward to another season of fellowship and competition!

This week's meeting is Jason Camis with Sertoma Hearing Aid Project.
Jason E. Camis became the Executive Director of Sertoma International in May 2022. Jason spent the previous 10+ years as the President & CEO of two chambers of commerce near Kansas City and has over 20 years of nonprofit membership organization experience. He earned his IOM (Institute for Organization Management) credentials from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in 2015 and holds degrees from Michigan State University and Eastern Michigan University. He currently serves on the board of several nonprofit organizations including the Kindertransport Association and the World Federation of Jewish Holocaust Survivors & Descendants.
Jason is a co-owner of Transport Brewery with two locations in the Kansas City metro. Originally from Detroit, Jason has called Kansas home for the past 20+ years. He’s married to Molly and has two daughters, Gabriella (19) and Luciana (13). In his free time, you can find him playing basketball, traveling, and visiting breweries (aka, market research!).

Fred discovers Bernard’s body during a nursing home outing and, in the ensuing confusion, is assumed to be Bernard by the staff. Initially, Fred wants to escape, but with nowhere else to go, he gradually embraces his new circumstances. As he walks in Bernard’s shoes, he touches the lives of those around him, including Denise Simms, a middle-aged caregiver struggling with her own family challenges. Fred’s acts of kindness and honesty leave a lasting impact, and he forms meaningful connections with other residents, such as Albert, who believes Fred is his late brother. The story explores Fred’s journey from fear and invisibility to purpose and connection. By the end, the novel emphasizes renewal and the creation of chosen family, with Fred helping others while rediscovering his own sense of meaning
What a great turnout we had for the Service Above Self dinner at the camp honoring Mike and Beth Gehring. Mike and Beth are co-directors of the Midwest Brachial Plexus Network, a group that uses the camp during the summer. They saw one of the 75th anniversary billboards for the camp and came to that celebration. They have been bringing a group of children and their families out to camp ever since then, over 25 years.
District 6040 is initiating a program to help our youth learn to step up safely to bullying behavior at a young age. The District is planning to launch the program for the January semester and are looking for Rotarians to facilitate the program for either boys or girls in 4th grade in a school in our community.

District 6040 is kicking off its 26th year of Shoes for Orphan Souls! Last year, Rotarians celebrated the 25th anniversary by exceeding the goal of 25,000 pairs of shoes by collecting an incredible 29,492 pairs of shoes, 11,446 pairs of socks, 303 pairs of shoelaces, and $25,326 in cash—bringing the 25-year total to 479,519 pairs of shoes!
Now, the goal is to reach 500,000 pairs by May 2027—just 20,481 pairs away!
👟 The 2026–2027 campaign is officially underway. Clubs are encouraged by our District Shoes Cheerleader and Rotary International President-Elect Larry Lunsford to make shoes a 10-month service project, shopping throughout the year and looking for discounts and opportunities to maximize their impact.
