This week's speaker is Enrique Chi. The topic is "Art as Mentorship."
Enrique Chi is a songwriter, musician, film maker, activist and leader and founder of psychedelic Panamanian band Making Movies. The band is the primary vehicle by which Chi expresses his mission through art.
"No Te Calles”, a song Chi wrote with music legend Ruben Blades, was the first track on Blades album Paraiso Road Gang which was nominated for Latin Grammy Album of the Year in 2019. The song and video were featured at the 2019 Latin Grammys telecast.
Chi has shared the stage with notable artists including Rubén Blades, Gogol Bordello, Los Lobos, Ozomatli, Kevin Morby and performed at international festivals including Vancouver Folk Festival and Vive Latino festival in Mexico City.
Enrique Chi has made it a point to stay connected to their community. In 2017, Chi launched Art As Mentorship, a non-profit organization empowering young people, through music, to write their own success story.
Through the month of October there will be a fundraising campaign for the Kansas City Rotary Club Foundation. The Rotary Youth Camp serves nearly four thousand campers each year and the Foundation assures that will continue for years to come. The Foundation contributes to the Camp’s operating budget and helps fund improvement to the facilities and grounds.
Now more than ever, the Foundation needs your support. Many thanks to the existing Foundation Fellows and Sustaining Members for your past support and we ask that you give again this year. It takes a $1,000 contribution to become a Fellow of the Foundation or you may become a Fellow by first being a Sustaining Member.
There is a special “matching” offer through the month of October for new donors. Contribute $800, an anonymous donor will pay $200, and you’ll be a Fellow! The donation can be made by check or made through Pay Pal, credit card, or debit card.
If you prefer to be a Sustaining Member, you can make a series of smaller contributions over a period of time until reaching the $1,000 Fellow level. Through the month of October, all new Sustaining Members contributions will be matched $1 for $1 - up to $200. There are two options for the donation. The traditional option is to donate a minimum of $100 per year until you have reached $1,000. There is now a second option; that is, to use the Donate Now button on the Rotary 13 web site and contribute a minimum of $10 per month until you have reached $1,000. The donation can be through Pay Pal, credit card, or debit card plus there is an option that the donation will be made automatically each month.
All contributions to the Kansas City Rotary Club Foundation are tax-deductible as charitable contributions.
If you have questions or want to make a donation, please contact Foundation President Marc Horner at mhorner@aol.com or 816.985.8766 or Foundation Resource Development Chair Sally Bibb at Sallybibb@aol.com or 816.835.2088.

Nora’s life has been going from bad to worse. Then at the stroke of midnight on her last day on earth, she finds herself transported to The Midnight Library, where each book contains an alternate life: a possible world in which she made different choices. She is given what seems like the ultimate opportunity: a chance to undo her regrets and try out each of the other lives she might have lived. But things aren’t always what she imagined they’d be, and soon her choices place the library and herself in extreme danger. Before time runs out, she must answer the ultimate question: With infinite choices, what is the best way to live?
Got together again last Wednesday, seem to be kind of nice for many of the high rollers. Quite a few subs in tonight for regular bowlers, but still a great time we had!
