THIS WEEK'S MEETING
March 5, 2026

This week’s program will be a panel of speakers from the Kansas City Rotary Club Foundation with comments on Securing the Camp’s Future.

Each year, the Kansas City Rotary Club Foundation contributes to the Rotary Youth Camp’s operating budget. Through the years, tens of thousands of children with handicaps and disadvantaged youth have experienced fresh air, playing outdoors and experiencing nature at our beautiful Camp.  The Foundation covers shortfalls in the budget and assures the future of the Camp for the children in our community.  This program will focus on the long term outlook of the Foundation.

Sally Bibb, a Kansas City Rotary Club Foundation Director and Chair of the Resource Development Committee, will facilitate a panel of Tom Woolwine, Matt Meyer and Marc Horner to review the future of the Foundation.

Tom Woolwine serves as Chair of the KCRCF Investment Committee and is focused on managing the assets and liabilities of the Foundation.  He will address enterprise risk management topics including Camp budgeting, spending policies, inflation, investment returns and contribution rates

Matt Meyer, a member of the Foundation Resource Development Committee, will share why he decided to become a Senior Fellow of the KCRCF Legacy Society. He'll share some personal stories which drew him to our Rotary Youth Camp.

Marc Horner, current President of the Kansas City Rotary Club Foundation will outline several ways that Club members can provide financial support for the Camp in addition to cash contributions.

Shoes for Orphan Souls

We have received a notice from Larry Lunsford, our Rotary International President-nominee, about Shoes for Orphan Souls project for 2026. This is our 25th year anniversary of benefiting orphan and vulnerable children by collecting new shoes. Larry’s goal for this year for the District is 25,000 pairs of shoes. Larry will ask our partner in Dallas, Buckner International, to find a corporate match of another 25,000 pairs of shoes.

In 2025 Club 13 focused on collecting funds. We purchased 41 pairs of shoes but collected $815 which was sent to Buckner International. We already have more than 41 pairs of shoes purchased, and we are looking to collect more than $815 for 2026.

We will make our first ask at our meeting on March 5th. We will have shoes on the table for cash donations. Checks can be made out to The Kansas City Club foundation, and Mandy will have the ability to take credit card payments.

Thank you in advance.

“8-in-8” Starts March 1
Membership is the lifeblood of Rotary, and we are launching an exciting Zone 30/31 Initiative beginning March 1st: 8-in-8.

The challenge is simple: Invite prospective members and gain 8 new members in 8 weeks.

Imagine the impact if every club embraces this effort. Growth brings:
  • Fresh ideas and new energy
  • Increased service capacity
  • Greater community visibility
  • Stronger long-term sustainability
Let’s be intentional. Who do you know who is ready to experience the power of Rotary? Now is the time to ask.
Rotary Youth Camp Update
Saturday was a beautiful day at the Rotary Youth Camp! Eagles and campers alike enjoyed themselves. The Scouts helped prep the pollinator gardens by marking the plant spots and raking dead grass out.
Sunday was a different story.  The Scouts hosted their Cub Pack’s Blue and Gold banquet Sunday afternoon and everyone had some ice pellets on their shoulders as they arrived for the ceremony. The eagle in the nest had some also.

About the book:
Sarajevo, spring 1992. Each night, nationalist gangs erect barricades, splitting the diverse city into ethnic enclaves; each morning, the residents – whether Muslim, Croat or Serb – push the makeshift barriers aside.

When violence finally spills over, Zora, an artist and teacher, sends her husband and elderly mother to safety with her daughter in England. Reluctant to believe that hostilities will last more than a handful of weeks, she stays behind while the city falls under siege. As the assault deepens and everything they love is laid to waste, black ashes floating over the rooftops, Zora and her friends are forced to rebuild themselves, over and over. Theirs is a breathtaking story of disintegration, resilience and hope.
