Our Speaker this week is Kai Guo, President, Kansas City Chinese American Association.
Kai Guo is VP, Head of Market Development & Origination at MHI Hydrogen Infrastructure (MHI H2I), a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi Power Americas. Before that, Kai Guo was Vice President responsible for Mitsubishi Power’s hydrogen infrastructure development activities in the western US and Canada. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Missouri in Kansas City and still holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
He has been on the Board of the Kansas City Chinese American Association since January, 2021 and was recently elected as President.
Twenty-three Club 13 Rotarians and guests gathered at the Project CURE warehouse on October 30th to sort and assess medical supplies. Each week, volunteers such as our Rotarians prepare and load semi-truck sized ocean cargo containers. These cargo containers are packed with the medical equipment and supplies needed at hospitals and clinic in resource limited countries. In recent years, Project CURE has partnered with Rotary to send supplies to Zambia. Thank you to the many volunteers who gave their time to this project and made their way through the maze in the SubTropolis where the warehouse is located. A special thanks to Francis Karanu who organized the event and to Pete Sotta who solicited volunteers. The staff at Project CURE were helpful, the volunteers were engaged and the event was very successful.
We are excited to announce that the Nominating Committee has selected Lee Brumitt as the President-elect Nominee/Sec/Treas.
The nominees for Director are: Jan Armstrong, Pat Bolin, Eric Burger, John Gillis, Scott McRuer and Peter Sotta. We will provide pictures and short bios in next week's newsletter.
Ballots will be available at the Nov. 20th meeting and will be due back by the Dec. 4th meeting.
The holidays are just around the corner, and it’s time to kickoff our annual Salvation Army Bell Ringing Drive! THIS YEAR OUR HELP IS NEEDED MORE THAN EVER! There are opportunities to ring on the Saturday before Thanksgiving and the first two Saturdays of December.
Please join the Rotary Book Discussion Group for the discussion of the book When The Cranes Fly South by Lisa Ridzen. The book discussion will be led by Vivien Jennings and all Rotarians and guests are welcome.

About the book:
Bo is running out of time. Yet time is one of the few things he’s got left. These days, his quiet existence is broken up only by daily visits from his home care team. Fortunately, he still has his beloved elkhound Sixten to keep him company. . . though now his son, with whom Bo has had a rocky relationship, insists on taking the dog away, claiming that Bo has grown too old to properly care for him. The threat of losing Sixten stirs up a whirlwind of emotion, leading Bo to take stock of his life, his relationships, and the imperfect way he’s expressed his love over the years.
