DESCRIPTION:The following are important things you need to know about volun
 teering in our warehouse: All volunteers must be free of any contagious il
 lness (runny nose\, colds\, the flu\, strep throat\, etc.) Volunteers must
  be 8 years or olderVolunteers 8-15 must have an adult chaperone Individua
 l 16-18 year olds may volunteer without a chaperone  Groups must meet the
  following requirements:8-11 years old: 1 adult is required for every 5 ch
 ildren  12-15 years old: 1 adult is required for every 10 youth 16-18 yea
 rs old: 1 adult is required for every 15 youth Bring at least two chaperon
 es for 8-15 year olds so that the group is never unattended in the VEC.  
 If you have youth in two different age groups\, bring enough adults to mee
 t the ratio for the youngest participants     Long pants and close toe and
  heel shoes are required.Volunteers wearing open shoes will not be able to
  serve in the Volunteer Engagement CenterOpen shoes include\, but are not 
 limited to\, clogs and sandals Crocs must be worn with the back strap cove
 ring the heel   Dressing in layers and bringing a jacket is recommended\, 
 even during the summer.   Please leave all valuable jewelry at home. This 
 includes rings which may come off in the packing process.  Parking is limi
 ted so please carpool. Visitor parking is available in front of the buildi
 ng and in an overflow lot across the street. If spots fill\, please limit 
 street parking to the east side (closest to the building). Please enter th
 rough the Volunteer Entrance (under the red awning).  The Volunteer Engag
 ement Center is a vital part of Harvesters’ mission to mobilize the powe
 r of our community to create equitable access to nutritious food and addre
 ss the root causes and impact of hunger.  In this area\, volunteers sort 
 and repack food\, which assists Harvesters in feeding more than 226\,000 n
 eighbors each month.  Volunteer tasks are assigned based on product avail
 ability and project prioritization.  Opportunities include: Sorting and b
 oxing nonperishable food Packing fresh produce Sorting and boxing bread Re
 packing ready-to-eat food and bulk productsMay include refrigerated or mea
